April 12, 2009 If you haven't noticed, either because you just found this site or don't pay much attention to the main page, I have not been able to add new bands or content in quite some time. I drive over the road now, and just dont have the time to kep up with the local music scene or the changes Springfield has gone through the past couple years. I have noticed some great new sites and a lot more radio play of local bands and would suggest to anyone looking for local flavor to check out 106.7 and 102.1 fm in the Springfield MO listening area. I do believe both have current and fresh links for local music sites. I wish I had more time to keep up on the local scene, but family comes first and I had to do what I had to do to kep my family financially secure.
I have noticed the downtown music scene is virtually gone. Most clubs are gone, with exception to a few long time favorties. Many are playing dj pop music instead of local live music. Several have moved out of the downtown area as the downtown scene has turned into a more culturally sterile place. Its all about high end shopping, expensive and bland food, and in general not a place I find to be fun and exciting to go to anymore. I took my wife to dinner downtown and it was a horrible experience. We tried to enjoy a meal at Fedora, and ended up spending $60 bucks on a 3 hour appetizer. There was no life downtown. The young er folks have ben run off, no skaters, or punkers, or metal kids. Nothing but overpriced junk, cops, and construction materials. I hope some other part of town has kept the local scene alive.
