Review: Apnea's new album Tainted Purity
Review by: Luke Offield of 3 Headed Moses, Heavycore Staff Reviewer.
If Apnea's latest release of Tainted Purity should be your first foray into their utterly unforgiving world, you are in for a real treat. This album is a prime example of just how much they are capable of and it shows why they are one of Missouri's top metal bands. With this album Apnea's sound has never been more solidified. Tainted Purity shows much more thought in the songwriting and is heavier and harder with life-draining riffs of an unimaginable depth. The real signature within their style lies just beneath all of the heaviness. There is an underlying melody that is ever-present and watching. It steps forward from time to time to assert its control and once its aims are met, it returns to the background to lie in wait. The recording as a whole is more "in your face" than Apnea's last albums which were given more of that "spooky cavern" feel, but this change of delivery is aggressive and works very well. The vocals, which have always been a strong side to Apnea's music, have a bit more variation and experimentation in sounds, voices, and effects. For all of you pre-existing Apnea fans, there is even a remake of the song "God Complex" that was last seen on their Infinite Decay album. So whether you've enjoyed Apnea's music for some time now, or you have yet to experience this new level of heavy and onerous metal, you should do all you can to obtain this new album and catch these guys at a show. Check them out at Apnea.com right away.
